Dave has been involved in the sports of mens gymnastics for most of his life, first as a gymnast himself, and then as a coach and a FIG rated judge. Having him part of the boys competitive coaching team at ZnZ Gymnastics has been a tremendous asset, not just from a coaching perspective but also in assisting in the technical and scoring side of this sport.
As a gymnast Dave competed for Sokol Omaha as well as for his Omaha South High School. During his senior year he won the Nebraska state floor title. He continued his gymnastics career as a Husker at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln under Francis Allen for 2 years until he sustained a career-ending knee injury.
After college, Dave pursued a teaching career for Ralston Public Schools where he taught Biology, Physical Science, Earth Science, Zoology, and Human Anatomy. Dave continued in the sport as the mens and womens gymnastics coach at Ralston High School for 23 years until the state association dropped gymnastics as a school sport. Dave never lost his love for coaching, and continued coaching the boys and girls dive team for Ralston, producing numerous state champions.
Dave has been the Nebraska state chairman for USA Gymnastics for 28 years. He has also been a men’s gymnastics judge for 36 years and judged at numerous state, regional, and college competitions, including four Men’s Big 10 Championships and two Men’s NCAA Championships.
